P19 Alexander as Hercules pendant

From a greek silver four drachma coin of King Seleucus of Syria,who succeeded Alexander the Great to most of Asia, from around 320 B.C., showing a portrait of Alexander in the guise of Hercules wearing the scalp of the Nemian Lion. On the reverse the seated figure of Zeus can be seen holding his symbol, the eagle.

P67 Buddha pendant

The Buddha seen here is taken from a seventeenth century Tibetan bone original.

The art of the Dalai Lama owes much to greek influence dating back to the conquests of Alexander the Great.

Nonetheless serenity pervades this piece.

P18 Wrestlers pendant

A Greek silver two drachma coin of Aspendus in what is now southern Turkey from around 330 B.C. shows two naked muscular wrestlers grappling. On the reverse a slinger firing his slingshot can be seen with to the right a "triskeles", a symbol made up of three legs joined together running.

P5 Dionysus pendant

From a greek silver four drachma coin of the Thracian island of Thasos in the northern Aegean from around 130 B.C., showing the youthful god Dionysus with his long hair coiled and bound, with a wreath of ivy and flowers in it. On the reverse Hercules can be seen standing, leaning on his club.

P23 Athena pendant

From a greek silver two drachma coin of Corinth of around 350 B.C. showing the helmeted head of Athena to the right with a tiny dove of peace behind. On the reverse can be seen Pegasus in flight. The coins of this great commercial city were current all over the western Mediterranean

From a greek silver four drachma coin of the city of Tyre in Phoenicia under king Antiochus VII of Syria of around 130 B.C., showing an eagle, symbol of Zeus; a type which has been copied all the way to American gold coins and quarters.
